Colloquium: The street in the city structure
Planned or organically grown streets are part of the design of cities, and their faces are shaped and transformed by continuous occupation over time. Some streets and axes perform roles crucial to the understanding of urban growth identity. They have a genesis and a development. As living organisms occupied by residents and passers-by, their faces are slowly transformed. In a similar way, the functions that characterise them will develop over time.
As part of the celebrations to commemorate 500th anniversary of the opening of Rua das Flores, in the city of Porto, we propose to hold this colloquium to reflect upon/study the role of the street in the urban structure and image.
