"Work, Rest and Power: Architecture, Space and Political Life 1500-1815" is an online workshop hosted by the Humanities Research Centre at the University of York. It will take place on 27 May 2021.

This workshop explores the role of the home in politics and political life, taking a broad view to explore the lived space of political figures, materiality, and the role of women and the household.

The workshop will commence with a keynote paper from Dr Manolo Guerci, University of Kent, before leading into a series of panel discussions and optional thematic breakout sessions for those who wish to continue the discussion.

Interested scholars are invited to submit abstracts of no more than 250 words by 12 April 2021. We are seeking abstracts that relate to the home as a political space, broadly conceived, in any place or time period within the Early Modern era. We welcome submissions from all scholars, but particularly encourage Postgraduate and Early Career Researchers. For further information see our website at workrestpower.weebly.com.

Please submit abstracts and any questions via email to the organisers Kirsty Wright (kmw532york.ac.uk) or Murray Tremellen (mat550york.ac.uk).
