Call for papers

In conjunction with an exhibition at Seton Hall University's Walsh Gallery,
entitled "Working in Wonder," the Gallery and the University's MA Program in
Museum Professions are organizing a one-day symposium on "Art and the
Curiosity Cabinet," on Saturday, February 5, 2011.

Keynote speaker at the symposium is Lawrence Wechsler, who will speak about
"The Natural History of Wonder." One- to two-page abstracts are solicited
for twenty-minute papers that address the modern and post-modern fascination
with the Wunderkammer or curiosity cabinet and the way it has informed 20th-
and 21st-century art. Papers may deal with individual artists or, more
generally and conceptually, with the reasons why artists are attracted to
the curiosity cabinet and its contents.

Deadline for submission of abstracts: November 1. Please send as e-mail
attachments to Petra Chu at petra.chushu.edu<mailto:petra.chushu.edu>.
Pending grant funding, some travel money may be available.
