Christian-Muslim Relations in the Literature and Visual Arts of
Early Modern Europe
This panel intends to explore and discuss various representations of
Muslims from the XIV to the XVII century. Of particular interest are papers
that document connections between images and politics or military events.
The panel also intends to stimulate discussion on Said's Orientalism (1978)
and subsequent postcolonial criticism. How valuable are these theoretical
approaches to the Christian-Muslim discourse prior to the Napoleon's
invasion of Egypt in 1798?
