Geographies of Passage: Darren Almond’s "Fire Under Snow"

On the occasion of the exhibition Fire Under Snow: Darren Almond (18.01.
– 30.03.2008), Parasol Unit invites you to a symposium to explore the
work. Academics, artists and writers will discuss the three-channel
video installation In The Between, which explores the confluence of
Buddhist monks in Tibet with the new high speed railway from China.
Please join us for a discussion about the cultural situation in Tibet,
the legacy of experimental film and current issues around contemporary
art and globalisation.

3.35-4.00: Tea break
4.00-4.30: TJ Demos, ‘The Artist Traveller: Contemporary Art and
Globalisation’
4.30-5.00: Lucy Reynolds, ‘Utopian Landscapes: Experimental film and the
exotic Other’
5.00-5.20: Q&A with chair Maxa Zoller
5.20-6.00: wrap up and final discussion, which will be joined by Darren
Almond
