Dear list members:
In Schwerin there is a 17th century panel painting showing a portrait of a
man (inv. no. G 325) with an Antwerp brand on the back (recently
illustrated in full colour in the catalogue "Jan Brueghels Antwerpen. Die
flämischen Gemälde in Schwerin", no. 45).
Contrary to this mark, at least half of the colleagues who see the
painting say it must be Dutch for reasons of style.
Now, I have heard about at least one painting done in Haarlem on an
Antwerp panel, but could not figure out the literature discussing the
case.
Can anyone point out any literature mentioning Antwerp panels being used
abroad?
Thank you.
Gero Seelig, Schwerin.
