(18.-21. Jahrhundert)
Im Rahmen des von der Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft und vom Land
Rheinland-Pfalz gefoerderten Graduiertenkollegs, das zum 01.01.2003 in die
zweite Foerderphase treten wird, werden ausgeschrieben:
11 Promotionsstipendien

zum 01.04.2003 (Laufzeit maximal 3 Jahre)

Das transdisziplinaere Rahmenthema des GKs sind Strukturanalogien und
metaphorische Verschiebungen in der Konstruktion von Ethnizitaet und
Geschlecht im Kontext der europaeischen Expansion und der
Globalisierungsprozesse vom 18. Jahrhundert bis zur Gegenwart. Im
Anschluss an die gender, cultural und postcolonial studies werden die
komplexen Ueberschneidungen und Zusammenhaenge zwischen patriarchalen und
kolonialen Machtdiskursen thematisiert. Untersuchungsgegenstaende sind
sowohl symbolische Praxen und soziales Handeln als auch Texte und Bilder
im weitesten Sinn, mit denen geschlechtliche, kulturelle und nationale
Identitaeten gebildet und Differenzen hierarchisiert werden.
Am Kolleg beteiligt sind die Faecher Ethnologie, Germanistik/Neuere
deutsche Literaturwissenschaft, Neuere und Neueste Geschichte,
Japanologie, Kunstgeschichte und Medienwissenschaft.Das Kolleg richtet sich an
ueberdurchschnittlich qualifizierte
HochschulabsolventInnen, die im Rahmen des Kollegthemas in einem der
Faecher promovieren wollen. Auslaendische DoktorandInnen sind
ausdruecklich aufgefordert sich zu bewerben. Angeboten wird mit Beginn des
Sommersemesters 2003 ein interdisziplinaeres, auf Fragen der Frauen- und
Genderforschung und kultureller Differenz abhebendes Studienprogramm. Von
den KollegiatInnen wird die Wohnsitznahme in Trier sowie die Bereitschaft
zur regelmaessigen Teilnahme und aktiven Beteiligung an der Gestaltung des
Studienprogrammes erwartet. BewerberInnen sollten nicht aelter als 28
Jahre sein.PromovendInnen, die kein Stipendium benoetigen, aber an der
thematischen
Ausrichtung interessiert sind, koennen im Rahmen des Studienangebotes
ebenfalls gefoerdert werden und werden daher zur Bewerbung
aufgefordert.Bewerbungen sind mit den ueblichen Unterlagen (Lebenslauf,
Zeugniskopien,
ein Exemplar der Examensarbeit), einem ca. 10 Seiten umfassenden Exposé
des Arbeitsvorhabens mit Zeitplan und einer einseitigen Kurzfassung bis
zum 31.12.2002 zu richten an

“Identity and Difference”
Gender Constructions and Interculturality
(18th - 21th Centuries)

The University of Trier is pleased to announce the continuation of the
graduate college that is supported and financed by the Deutsche
Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) and the country of Rheinland-Pfalz/Germany.
Entering its second period of support by 01.01.2003, the college awards
11 doctoral scholarships

starting by 01.04.2003 (tenable for up to 3 years)

The transdisciplinary focus of the graduate college examines structural
analogies and metaphorical shifts within the construction of ethnicity and
gender in the context of the European expansion and the processes of
globalization from the 18th century up to the present day. Taking up to
the fields of gender, cultural and colonial studies, the graduate college
analyses the complex intersections and connections between patriarchal and
colonial discourses of power. Objects of (critical) study are symbolic
practices and modes of social acting as well as texts and images in any
broader sense that are constituing sexual, cultural and national
identities, and thus the hierarchical construction of differences.The graduate
college is based on an interdisciplinary concept, to which
the disciplines of Ethnology, Modern German Literature, Modern and
Contemporary History, Japanology, History of Art and Media Studies
contribute.The graduate college is open to all outstanding graduate students
enrolled
in one of these subjects who consider to write their doctoral thesis on a
topic related to the college’s context of gender construction and
interculturality. This announcement is aimed at international students in
particular. At the beginning of the summer term 2003, the curriculum will
be covering an interdisciplinary scale, focussing on questions of women
and gender studies and on issues of cultural differences. Doctoral
candidates will be expected to have their place of residence in the city
of Trier, to show regular attendance and the ambition of taking an active
part in organizing the studies program. Applicants should not be older
than 28 years.Doctoral candidates who will not be needing a scholarship, but
are
interested in the college’s orientation might though find supportion by
the studies program and thus are also welcome to apply.
Applications should be submitted to Prof. Dr. Viktoria Schmidt-
Linsenhoff, spokesperson of the graduate college, and should be postmarked
no later than the 31.12.2002. They should include appropriate documents
such as a CV, copies of references and a copy of the final thesis.
Doctoral candidates are also expected to give an outline of their research
project on a 10 pages volume, and a 1 page synopsis. Applications are to
