Studies Fourth Conference, "Memory and Commemoration"

Call for Papers Registration Deadline: 2002-09-06

The Australian and New Zealand Association for Medieval and Early
Modern Studies (ANZAMEMS) will hold its fourth conference from 5-8
February 2003 at The University of Melbourne, Australia. The
conference theme is "Memory and Commemoration". We hope to attract
papers that reflect on such topics as forms of commemoration and ways
of remembering across time and space; on modern creation and
recollection of medieval and early modern pasts; on historical,
literary and artistic representations of memory; on the material and
ritual culture of commemorating the living and dead, past events and
mythic occurrences; on genealogies, tradition and familial memory,
etc.

The programming committee invites proposals (150 words) for 20 minute
papers. Please send your title, abstract and a preliminary indication
of any audio-visual requirements to the convenor, Megan Cassidy-Welch
(email: anzamems-2003unimelb.edu.au), by Friday 6 September, 2002.

We also invite members of the society to put together their own
panels. Proposals for such panels, including a title and a call for
papers (150 words), should reach the committee by Friday 12 May,
