Senior Lecturer / Lecturer, Department of Visual Studies

The Department of Visual Studies (VS) offers a multi-disciplinary course of study, focusing on art history and film art. VS admits about 30 undergraduate, MPhil and PhD students each academic year. The BA (Hons) in Visual Studies curriculum emphasises the history and theory of visual arts and culture in Asia and beyond; in addition, the programme offers students practical, object- and skill-based learning through studio practice, video production, curatorial projects and internships. The Department also offers a taught Master’s programme in Curating and Art History (MACAH). Another new taught Master’s programme in Creative and Media Industries (MACMI) will be launched in 2021/22. VS is inviting applications for a non-tenure track position at the rank of Senior Lecturer/Lecturer. The appointee is expected to: (i) teach a number of courses on studio arts, including supervising internships and undergraduate final projects, for 30 hours (about 10 courses/sessions) each academic year; (ii) serve as internship coordinator; (iii) develop and implement innovative teaching approaches; and (iv) contribute to service and development of the Department. The appointee may also be invited to supervise internships and curatorial projects in MA programmes.

General Requirements
Applicants for the position should have:
(i) An MFA, DFA and/or a PhD degree in a relevant discipline;
(ii) At least four years’ relevant experience for appointment as Lecturer and at least eight years’ experience for appointment as Senior Lecturer;
(iii) Excellent track record of teaching in higher education, including curriculum development, innovative pedagogy and grants;
(iv) Proven record of exhibitions, awards and professional services; and
(v) Commitment to knowledge transfer, community engagement and related activities.

Applicants who can teach a wide range of practice-based studio courses, such as drawing, printmaking, digital imaging, video art and photography, are of particular interest. Strong track record of creative and curatorial practices is highly desirable. Applicants are required to provide information about their art portfolios and evidence of high-quality teaching in relevant subjects.

Appointment
The conditions of appointment will be competitive. The rank and remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits include annual leave, medical and dental benefits, mandatory provident fund, gratuity, and incoming passage and baggage allowance for the eligible appointee.
Appointment will normally be made on contract basis for up to two years.
