The Department of Visual Studies (VS) offers a multi-disciplinary course of study, focusing on art history and film art. VS admits about 30 undergraduate, MPhil and PhD students each academic year. The BA (Hons) in Visual Studies curriculum emphasises the history, theory and philosophy of visual arts and culture in Asia and beyond, complimenting with experiential, object- and skill-based learning through fieldtrips, studio practice, curatorial training and internships. A new taught Master’s programme in Curating and Art History (MACAH) will be launched in 2020/21. VS is looking for a full-time faculty member to enrich the courses offering in the areas of Western Art and Curatorial Studies in both the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. The appointee will also be invited to supervise research dissertations or curatorial projects and contribute to service. He/she is expected to develop innovative and rigorous research and generate research outputs with high impact.

General Requirements
Applicants for the position should have: (i) a PhD degree in Art History or a relevant discipline; (ii) excellent track record of research, including publications, grants and awards; (iii) strong commitment to research, knowledge transfer, community engagement and related activities; (iv) relevant teaching and curatorial experience; and (v) good ability in handling academic administration.
Applicants who can teach a wide range of subjects, including theories of art, art criticism, contemporary art, themes in Western art and curatorial studies, are of particular interest. Candidates are required to provide information about their research records and evidence of high-quality teaching in relevant subjects.

Appointment
The conditions of appointment will be competitive. The remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits include annual leave, medical and dental benefits, mandatory provident fund, housing allowance, gratuity, and incoming passage and baggage allowance for the eligible appointee. The appointee is entitled to apply for both internal and external grants in support of his/her teaching, research and conference activities.
Initial appointment will be made on a fixed term contract for a period of two years, starting from mid-August 2020. Subject to the University requirements, funding availability, review of appointee’s performance and mutual agreement, re-appointments may be made on fixed term contracts for periods of normally up to three years.
