Michelle Smiley, Rutgers University-New Brunswick

The CinemArts SIG seeks submissions for its first graduate student essay prize, with the winner to be announced at the 2019 Society for Cinema and Media Studies conference. This award is meant to recognize outstanding scholarship from students currently enrolled in a recognized graduate program and working at the intersection of film, art and visual culture. Applicants must be current SCMS and CinemArt members (but not necessarily presenting at the 2019 conference). Submissions may include revised seminar papers, dissertation excerpts, or any essay published in 2019. Submissions are limited to one per applicant, should not exceed 8,500 words (excluding notes), and must use a standard citation format. If the winning essay is unpublished, the author will be matched with a mentor to help prepare the essay for publication. Submissions due by Jan 31 using this link: https://goo.gl/forms/ZPLnJBfQvpIC8nQw1
