Puppen als Miniaturen – mehr als klein / Dolls/Puppets as Miniatures – More than Small

Das zweite Heft der Zeitschrift "denkste: puppe (de:do)" widmet sich dem Thema Puppen als Miniaturen – mehr als klein. Puppen und ihre Umwelten (z.B. Puppenhäuser) sind in diesem Zusammenhang ‚mehr‘ als nur verkleinerte Varianten oder Repliken von Menschen und ihren Lebenswelten. Sie generieren Bilder und Narrative, die einen eigenen Zauber entfalten können und in ihrer Funktion und Wirkung changieren: zwischen Beispielhaftigkeit, Trivialität, Außergewöhnli-chem, Exklusivität, Verdichtung, ‚Downsizing‘, Kindchenschema, magischer Aufladung etc. Dabei soll es auch um mediale Erscheinungsformen der Puppe als Miniatur gehen, stehen doch aus etymologischer Perspektive Bild und Schrift Pate bei der Geburt der Miniatur: Bei der ‚miniatura‘ ging es zunächst nicht um den ‚kleineren Maßstab eines Größeren‘, sondern um das Malen mit Zinnoberrot (miniare); darum, die Initialen in Manuskripten rot zu gestalten, um sie in der weiteren Bearbeitung durch in die Buchstaben gemalte kleine Bilder ersetzen zu können (siehe Kluge/Seebold).
Konzipiert man Puppen in diesem Sinne als Miniaturen, kommen wechselseitige Spannungs-verhältnisse ins Spiel: zwischen ‚klein‘ und ‚groß, ‚Sichtbarem‘ und ‚Verstecktem‘, ‚Mimetik‘ und ‚Poetik‘, ‚real‘ und ‚fiktiv‘. Puppen als Miniaturen sind hybride Objekte, aufgeladen mit vielerlei Symbolik und Bedeutungsüberschuss, die ein Referenzsystem darstellen des Aller-kleinsten im Kleinsten im Kleinen beziehungsweise der Puppe in der Puppe in der Puppe. Dabei gelten Miniaturen und Miniaturwelten gleichzeitig auch als ein ‚Fundort der Größe‘ (Bachelard), sie ermöglichen wie in einem Brennglas den Blick auf das Ganze, auf Hintergründiges jenseits der Oberfläche und auf die Erkenntnis von inneren Zusammenhängen. Das gilt für Miniaturen und ihre Narrative in vielerlei Feldern und Disziplinen – in der Literatur, in den (bildenden) Künsten, in der Archäologie, in der Fotografie, im Film, in der Musik, im Figuren- und Objekt-Theater, im Design und nicht zuletzt in den konkreten Nachbildungen und ‚Nachstellungen‘ der realen Außenwelten. So geht es auch um die Ordnungen der kleinen, miniaturisierten Dinge in den Puppenwelten, den großen und kleinen Puppenhäusern, den Hausaltären, den persönlichen Objekt-Arrangements, den musealen Präsentationen, Sammlungen, Spielzeugen, den Modellen von Mensch-Technik-Zusammenhängen etc. bis hin zu Puppenstubenmorden als Anschauungsmaterial für Tatorte in der Rechtsmedizin und vor Gericht.

Der Call richtet sich an verschiedenste disziplinäre Forschungs- und Praxisfelder. Es geht darum, die Idee der Puppe als Miniatur in der Vielzahl ihrer medialen und historischen Varianten neu auszuleuchten, ihrer Verortung in aktuellen kultur- und gesellschaftswissenschaftlichen Diskursen nachzugehen und sie in ihrem Potenzial neu zu entdecken.
Die Beiträge sollen nicht mehr als 30.000 Zeichen umfassen. Das angesprochene Themenspektrum ergibt sich aus den oben genannten Überlegungen. Die Texte können auf Deutsch oder Englisch als e-Datei beim Editorial Team eingereicht werden. Angebote für einen Beitrag erbitten wir mit einer knappen Skizze (ca. 3.500 Zeichen) bis 16. September 2018. Rückmeldungen zur Aufforderung, einen Beitrag einzureichen, erfolgen bis Ende September 2018. Die Manuskripte sollen spätestens Ende Dezember 2018 vorliegen.

The second issue of the journal "Just a bit of: doll (de:do)" is dedicated to the topic of Dolls / Puppets as Miniatures – More than Small. In this context, dolls/puppets and their environments (e.g. doll houses) are considered to be 'more' than just miniaturized variants and replicas of humans and the worlds they live in. They generate images and narratives that unfold their own magic and oscillate in function and effect: between exemplification, triviality, extraordinary, exclusivity, condensation, downsizing, baby schema (Kindchenschema), magical charge etc. The call is also about medial manifestations of the doll as miniature as from an etymological perspective image and writing are the inspiration for the birth of the miniature: the 'miniatura' was initially not about the ‘smaller scale of a larger', but about painting with vermilion (miniare), making the initials in manuscripts red in order to be able to replace them in the further processing by small pictures painted in the letters (see Kluge / Seebold).
If dolls/puppets are conceived as miniatures in this sense, mutual tensions come into play: between 'small' and 'large', 'visible' and 'hidden', 'mimetics' and 'poetics', 'real' and 'fictitious'. Dolls/puppets as miniatures are hybrid objects, charged with many kinds of symbolism and surplus of meaning representing a referential frame of the smallest in the smaller in the small or of the doll in the doll in the doll, respectively. At the same time miniatures and miniature worlds are also considered as a 'place to find greatness' (Bachelard), as in a burning glass they allow a view of the whole, of something profound beyond the surface and the recognition of inner contexts. This applies to miniatures and their narratives in many fields and disciplines – in literature, in the (fine) arts, in archeology, in photography, in film, in music, in figurative and object theater, in design and last but not least in the concrete replicas and 're-enactments’ of the real external worlds. Thus, it is also about the order of the small miniaturized things in the dolls’/puppets’ worlds, the large and small doll houses, the private altars, the personal object arrangements, the museum presentations, collections, toys, models of human-technology relationships etc. up to the doll house murders as illustrative material for crime scenes in forensic medicine and in court.
The call is aimed at a wide variety of disciplinary research and fields of practice. The aim is to highlight the idea of the doll/puppet as a miniature in the multitude of its medial and historical variants, to explore its status in current cultural and social discourses and to rediscover its promising potential.
The contributions should not exceed 30,000 characters. The range of topics addressed results from the considerations mentioned above. The texts can be submitted in English or German as an e-file to the editorial team. Please submit a brief sketch (about 3,500 characters) of your proposal by 16 September 2018. Feedback on the invitation to submit a contribution will be made by the end of September 2018. The manuscripts should be handed in by the end of December 2018 at the latest.

Die Zeitschrift de:do ist an der Forschungsstelle Schrift-Kultur der Universität Siegen angesiedelt und bezieht sich neben literatur- und sprachwissenschaftlicher Forschung auf ein breites Spektrum von psychologisch-pädagogischen Ansätzen, Arbeiten aus der bildenden und darstellenden Kunst sowie auf Beiträge aus dem gesamten Bereich kulturwissen-schaftlicher Forschung. Es handelt sich um ein multidisziplinäres online-Journal mit Peer Reviews, in dem deutsche und englische Beiträge willkommen sind. Das Journal erscheint halbjährlich sowohl mit jeweils einem Schwerpunktthema (CfP) als auch mit einer begrenzten Anzahl freier Beiträge, die sich auf den Topos Puppe (und anthropomorphe Artefakte) beziehen und, unabhängig vom jeweils aktuellen CfP, in verschiedenen Rubriken (Originalarbeiten, Miszellen, Interviews, Rezensionen, Essays, Ankündigungen etc.) erscheinen.

The journal de:do is a project in cooperation with the Forschungsstelle Schrift-Kultur (Research Center for Written Culture) at the University of Siegen. In addition to the areas of literature and literary studies, the journal addresses research from a wide spectrum of disci-plines including psychology, education, visual and performing arts and the entire spectrum of cultural studies. It is a multidisciplinary online journal with peer reviews, in which German and English contributions are welcome. The journal is published biannually with both central topic areas (CfP) as well as a limited number of free contributions independent of the topical CfP. Additional sections (e.g., miscellaneous, interviews, reviews, essays, announcements etc.) related to dolls/puppets (and anthropomorphic artifacts) are also included.
