The Faculty of Art, Design & Architecture at the University of Johannesburg invites applications for a postdoctoral research fellowship for an individual seeking to be part of a dynamic research team overseen by Brenda Schmahmann, holder of the South African Research Chair (SARChI Chair) in South African Art and Visual Culture.

Envisaged research must fall broadly into one of the following three rubrics,: gender and visual culture; public art and its discourses; art and design in the context of community projects.

The recipients will be expected to focus primarily on research and publishing but also to provide assistant supervision of PhD and master’s students.

The scholarship is renewable for up to three years. In addition to a salary, the research fellow will be provided with excellent work facilities in a supportive scholarly environment.

Applicants must have obtained their doctoral degrees in the last five years.

The position may be taken up either in October 2018 or early in 2019.
