We are very happy to announce the call for papers for an international conference "Influence of the Vienna School of Art History before and after 1918", which will take place in the Institute of Art history of the Czech Academy of Sciences in Prague on 4th and 5th April 2019.

The Vienna School of Art History determined the direction of art history research in central and more distant parts of Europe even after the dissolution of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The international conference will focus on the reception of the Viennese method of art history research in the countries of the former Austro-Hungarian monarchy at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century and in the national schools of art history after 1918 on the territory of what are now the countries of Hungary, Slovakia, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia, Croatia, Ukraine, Poland, Austria (outside of Vienna) and Czechia. Ideologically the conference follows on from the themed issue of the Journal for Art Historiography of 2013, which dealt with questions concerning the transformation, transfer and transmutation of the method of the Vienna School of Art History in Central Europe.

For this conference we welcome papers dealing, for example, with the following themes:
- The pupils and followers of great figures of the Vienna School of Art History in the former countries of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy and in the individual states of Central, Southern and Eastern Europe,
- The thematic focus of the research of pupils and followers of the Vienna School of Art History in the former countries of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy and in the individual states of Central, Southern and Eastern Europe,
- The personal, historical and art-historical context of the pupils and followers of the Vienna School of Art History in the former countries of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy and in the individual states of Central, Southern and Eastern Europe,
- Changes in the methods of the Vienna School of Art History in the former countries of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy and in the individual states of Central, Southern and Eastern Europe,
- Comparison of the theory of the Vienna School of Art History with the methodologically differently focused histories of art in the individual states of Central, Southern and Eastern Europe after 1918,
- Critical review of the Vienna School of Art History after 1918.

Other contributions in keeping with the focus of the conference are also welcome. The languages of the conference will be German and English. The outcome of the conference will be a collection of the conference papers. This conference is the start of a tradition of regular specialist meetings on this important theme of Central European culture, which will take place every second year.

Individual draft papers must include:
- The title of the paper
- A summary of 1800 characters max.
- Name of author
- Workplace of author
- Author’s contact details for communication with the organisers (especially e-mail)
- Brief CV of the author
