Engaging, Creating: Artist and Maker Practitioner Residencies in Public Spaces

This forthcoming conference will explore the role of residencies in museums and galleries and the contribution of resident practitioners to public arts initiatives. It will bring together artists, makers, residents, researchers, curators, historians and educators to discuss the development of creative practice and forms of engagement.

Papers will engage with the following conference themes:

Day 1: Philosophy and Policy
Wednesday 6 April, 10.00–20.00
Keynote Speaker: Richard Wentworth, artist
Why do a wide variety of cultural organisations invite residents to contribute to public arts initiatives? (includes drinks reception)

Day 2: Public Engagement and Participation
Thursday 7 April, 10.00–23.00
Keynote Speaker: Enrique Juncosa, Director, Irish Museum of Modern Art How do contemporary practitioners contribute to inspiring visitors and do residencies enable artists to develop their own skills and practice? (includes dinner)

Day 3: Responding to the Collections
Friday 8 April, 10.00–17.00
Keynote Speaker: Stephen Farthing, Rootstein Hopkins Professor of Drawing, University of the Arts
