The University of Silesia is offering a 4-Year Postdoctoral Position in the NCN OPUS Project “The Internationalization of Art Historiography in the Polish People’s Republic: The Case of Jan Białostocki”.

Applications are invited for a 4-year Postdoctoral position within the research project “The Internationalization of Art Historiography in the Polish People’s Republic: The Case of Jan Białostocki” („Umiędzynarodowienie historiografii sztuki w PRL. Przypadek Jana Białostockiego) (No. 2025/57/B/HS2/0068), funded by the Polish National Science Centre (NCN) and hosted by the University of Silesia in Katowice.

Responsabilities
- conducting research activities within the framework of the project.
- realization of project tasks, including the preparation of co-authored scientific publications with the Principal Investigator (PI) and participation in national and international scientific conferences.
- fulfilling organizational responsibilities in accordance with the Individual Assignment of Duties, including the co-organization of research seminars and other project-related academic activities together with the PI.

Qualifications
- minimum PhD degree in art studies, in the scope of art history obtained maximum 12 years prior to employment in the project
- experience in conducting research in the discipline of art history
- very good knowledge of the Polish art historiography
- international scientific activity (e.g. a documented internship abroad, participation in international conferences)
- good Polish and English skills
- knowledge of the additional foreign languages (French or/and German) at the level that allows for work with source materials

Additional qualifications
- knowledge of the history of art history during the 20th century
- history of application for external financing of research projects through participation in competitive grant programmes
- skills in historical and archival research methodology.

- list of publications (the committee recommends that the most significant publications are ordered from the latest till the oldest one),
- candidate’s declaration confirming that during the period when the candidate receives the remuneration for their full-time work in the project, the candidate shall not receive any remuneration from the funds assigned as a part of direct costs in research projects financed as a part of the NCN competitive grant programmes, nor will they receive any remuneration arising from the employment contract concluded with other employer, also from the employer with residence beyond Poland,
- other documentation defined in the open call requirements.

Terms of Employment
- full time employment on the basis of the fixed period employment contract for the period of minimum 6 months, however not longer than duration of the project, as a part of the research project NCN OPUS 29 “The Internationalization of Art History in the People's Republic of Poland. The Case of Jan Białostocki”, led by Patricia García-Montón González, PhD,
- employment at the University as a primary place of work,
- task-based working time,
- the remuneration for the position is based on the project assumptions and on the funds secured in its budget. The upper limit of funding for the base remuneration including the seniority bonus for this position is 8986 PLN per month and cannot be exceeded. The final amount of the base remuneration depends on the individual situation of the candidate, in particular on the seniority bonus to which a given candidate is entitled.
- the fixed remuneration component – seniority bonus in the amount of 1% of the base remuneration for every year of employment from the fourth year of work, provided that the amount of the component does not exceed 20% of the base remuneration,
- the variable remuneration components and monetary benefits or benefits in kind (e.g. additional annual remuneration, awards, and other co-financing possibilities), employee pension programme in accordance with the acts and internal regulations of the University of Silesia in Katowice,
- additional, paid options selected at the employee’s discretion on the basis of declaration submitted by the employee (e.g. private life insurance, private medical package of the employee’s choice, group pension scheme),
- opportunity for professional development,

Employment type: Full-time position for a period of 48 months
Salary: PLN 8,986 per month
