Die Arthur Boskamp-Stiftung vergibt vom 1. Januar 2027 bis 30. Juni 2028 die Position der künstlerischen Leitung des M.1 in Hohenlockstedt.

Die gemeinnützige Arthur Boskamp-Stiftung fördert bildende Kunst und Kultur mit einem Fokus auf zeitgenössischer Kunst (M.1 kuratieren) und gemeinschaftsbasierter Kulturarbeit vor Ort (M.1 Lokal). Alle zwei Jahre werden die zwei Förderpreise der Arthur Boskamp-Stiftung an Künstler:innen mit Bezug zu Norddeutschland vergeben. Die Stiftung verortet sich damit an der Schnittstelle von regionalem Kontext und internationaler Gegenwartskunst. Das großzügige ehemalige Militärgebäude M.1 in Hohenlockstedt bietet Raum für Ausstellungen, Veranstaltungen und Gastaufenthalte und kann als Ort der Gemeinschaft und Produktion genutzt werden.

Die Position der künstlerischen Leitung ist auf eine Laufzeit von eineinhalb Jahren angelegt und wird im zweijährigen Turnus vergeben. Sie umfasst die Konzeption und Umsetzung eines eigenständigen kuratorischen Programms im Kontext des M.1. Inhaltliche oder formale Vorgaben bestehen nicht; wünschenswert ist eine übergreifende programmatische Setzung.
Die künstlerische Leitung verantwortet die Konzeption, Planung und Umsetzung des kuratorischen Programms des M.1. Dazu gehören neben der Entwicklung von Ausstellungen, Veranstaltungen und weiteren Formaten auch organisatorische und kommunikative Aufgaben wie Budgetplanung, Drittmitteleinwerbung, Publikationen, Vermittlung, Öffentlichkeitsarbeit sowie die Zusammenarbeit mit Künstler:innen, Gästen, externen Partner:innen und dem Team der Stiftung. Erwartet werden Eigeninitiative, Verantwortungsbewusstsein, Teamfähigkeit sowie die Bereitschaft, sich auf den Kontext von Hohenlockstedt einzulassen. Die künstlerische Leitung repräsentiert das Programm des Hauses innerhalb und außerhalb der Region. Kommunikationssicherheit in deutscher und englischer Sprache wird daher vorausgesetzt.

Die Position der künstlerischen Leitung des M.1 wird als befristete Teilzeitstelle (ca. 20 Std./ Woche) vergeben und mit 1800,- € brutto monatlich vergütet. Da das Monatsgehalt nicht variabel ist, muss im Fall einer Gruppenbewerbung deutlich gemacht werden, wie Arbeitszeit und Gehalt auf die Gruppenmitglieder aufgeteilt werden sollen. Für den Turnus 2027/28 steht für die Produktion ein grundständiges Budget von insgesamt 45.000.- € zur Verfügung. Zusätzliche Gelder müssen eingeworben werden.

Die künstlerische Leitung wird durch das Team der Stiftung bei Organisation, Aufbau und Öffentlichkeitsarbeit unterstützt. Eine Unterbringung vor Ort ist temporär möglich, ein Arbeitsplatz im Büro des M.1 steht durchgehend zur Verfügung. Es besteht keine Residenzpflicht. Die künstlerische Leitung entwickelt das Programm eigenständig und mit inhaltlicher wie gestalterischer Freiheit. Verbindlicher Bestandteil der Tätigkeit ist die Vergabe der Förderpreise der Arthur Boskamp-Stiftung. Die künstlerische Leitung schreibt diese nach eigener thematischer oder formaler Vorgabe aus, organisiert die Vergabe an zwei Künstler:innen oder -gruppen durch eine selbstgewählte Jury und betreut die zum Preis gehörigen Publikationen und Präsentationen bzw. Ausstellungen der Preisträger:innen.

Das Programm kann begleitend oder abschließend mit einem eigenen Heft der Reihe kuratieren reflektiert oder dokumentiert werden.

The Arthur Boskamp-Stiftung is inviting applications for the position of Artistic Director of M.1 in Hohenlockstedt, to run from 1 January 2027 to 30 June 2028.

The non-profit Arthur Boskamp-Stiftung supports the visual arts and culture, with a focus on contemporary art (M.1 kuratieren) and community-based cultural work at a local level (M.1 Lokal). Every two years, the Arthur Boskamp-Stiftung grants its two Advancement Awards to artists with links to northern Germany. The foundation thus positions itself at the intersection of regional context and international contemporary art. The spacious former military building M.1 in Hohenlockstedt provides space for exhibitions, events and residencies, and can be used as a venue for community activities and creative production.

The position of artistic director is for a term of one and a half years and is awarded on a two-year rotation. It involves the conception and implementation of an independent curatorial programme within the context of M.1. There are no specific requirements regarding content or form; an overarching programmatic framework is desirable.

The artistic director is responsible for the conception, planning and implementation of M.1’s curatorial programme. In addition to developing exhibitions, events or other formats, this role also involves organisational and communication tasks such as budget planning, securing external funding, publications, outreach, public relations, and collaboration with artists, guests, external partners and the foundation’s team. We are looking for candidates who demonstrate initiative, a sense of responsibility, the ability to work in a team, and a readyness to deal with the context of Hohenlockstedt. The artistic director represents the venue’s programme both within and outside the region. Fluency in German and English is therefore essential.

The position of artistic director at M.1 is a temporary part-time role (approx. 20 hours per week) with a gross monthly salary of €1,800. As the monthly salary is fixed, any group applications must clearly state how working hours and the salary are to be divided amongst the group members. For the 2027/28 season, a basic production budget of €45,000 is available. Additional funds must be raised.

The artistic director is supported by the foundation’s team in matters of organisation, set-up and public relations. Temporary on-site accommodation is available, and a workspace in the M.1 office is available at all times. There is no obligation to reside on site. The artistic director develops the programme independently, with complete freedom in terms of both content and design. A key part of the role is the awarding of the Arthur Boskamp-Stiftung Advancement Awards. The artistic director issues the call for entries in accordance with their own thematic or formal criteria, organises the awarding of the prize to two artists or groups through a jury of their own choosing, and oversees the publications and presentations or exhibitions associated with the prize.

The programme can be reflected upon or documented, either alongside or following the event, with an issue of the kuratieren series.
