The Department of Art History, Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey (New Brunswick, NJ) is pleased to invite applications for a full-time tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor. We seek a scholar whose area of specialization lies within the ancient world, conceived globally. The geographic scope of the position might encompass Africa, Asia, the Americas, or Europe. Its chronological range varies according to the region, beginning as early as the Bronze Age (ca. 3000-1200 BCE) and generally extending to around 400-600 CE, or, in the case of a scholar of pre-Columbian art, up to the fifteenth and early sixteenth centuries. A global perspective on this period of art production emphasizes cultural exchange, transregional interaction, mobility, and diaspora. It expands and redefines the contours of what is considered the ancient world.
Applicants should have an outstanding research program and proven dedication to teaching. The successful applicant would have the opportunity to engage with the department’s programs in cultural heritage and preservation studies (CHAPS), architectural studies, and/or museum and curatorial studies and help to enhance departmental collaboration with other units across the University. Job duties include research and teaching both in the undergraduate and graduate programs in Art History. The successful candidate will have a 2-2 course load and teach a range of courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
The academic year salary for an assistant professor will not be less than $82110, based on the most recent collective bargaining agreement between the faculty union (AAUP-AFT) and Rutgers University.
