The Salzburg International Summer Academy of Fine Arts presents the current course programme entitled Diversity of the Future. Here, spaces are opened up to provide teachers and students with a place where they can devote themselves fully to their diverse artistic work and thinking. The motto is intended to foster hope in times of uncertainty and to explore possible futures. 19 courses will be held in the two locations: Hohensalzburg Fortress and the Untersberg quarry.
Every year, the Summer Academy offers high-profile courses in the fields of CURATING and WRITING. Amongst others, we invite to classes with art critic, writer and editor Louisa Elderton and curator Matylda Krzykowski.

LOUISA ELDERTON
Becoming Writing: Navigating Art Through the Written Word
18–30 August 2025
Why does art writing matter amid the AI boom? If artificial intelligence chatbots can steer everything we have to say about visual culture, why not just handover the baton? This course centres the creative and personal imperatives of writing about art. How can body, sensation, and thought become writing? Whether you’re a critic, journalist, art historian, curator, gallerist, artist, or someone who wants to try their hand at something new, the framework of this class encourages deep engagement with the roles of imagination, criticality, and perspective in art writing.
MATYLDA KRZYKOWSKI
Strategic improvisation
18–30 August 2025
The workshop is intuitive but guided by Matylda Krzykowski. Together and in individual sessions, the class will walk a wild line between artistic, spatial and curatorial practices. Throughout the process of designing, practicing, performing and reviewing, the group will aim to generate collective consciousness and confidence by ultimately producing a temporary environment that can be an exhibition, situation or an event visitors can participate in.
