CFP Oct 2, 2024

1 Section, 35th Deutscher Orientalistentag (Erlangen, 8.-12. Sep 25)

Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg, Sep 8–12, 2025
Deadline: Jan 31, 2025

Ilse Sturkenboom

Section: Material Culture, Art History and Archaeology.
Organization of the Section: Ilse Sturkenboom (LMU Munich) and Lorenz Korn (University of Bamberg)

The DOT has been regularly convened by the Deutsche Morgenländische Gesellschaft (DMG) since 1921 and takes place every 3-5 years at a university of the German-speaking area. The DOT covers all sub-disciplines of Oriental studies, both regionally and in terms of subject matter. Therefore, it is one of the world's most important conferences in the field. Participation does not require DMG membership.

The section on Material Culture, Art History and Archaeology is open for papers referring to periods and regions covered by Oriental Studies at large, although traditionally there has been a focus on Islamic cultures. This is an opportunity to meet and to discuss ongoing research and to be in touch with other areas of SWANA-related academia.

We invite abstracts for presentations, panels and posters. They should have a maximum text length of 250 words and contain 3-5 key references. Pre-organized panels on specific topics are also welcome.

The 35th DOT also offers the possibility of presenting a poster. This option aims to promote young academics in our disciplines. We thus warmly encourage advanced students and doctoral candidates in the early stages of their research to participate actively in the DOT.

Please submit your abstract through the conference portal until 31 January 2025. For further information about the conference can be found at https://www.dot2025.fau.eu/.
