The Menil Drawing Institute in Houston, Texas is now accepting applications for its Pre-Doctoral Fellowship for the 2024–2025 academic year. Applications are due December 15, 2023.
This residential Pre-Doctoral Fellowship is open by application to American and international students whose doctoral research focuses on modern and/or contemporary drawing or adopts a transhistorical approach to the medium. The Menil Drawing Institute’s fellowship program fosters the highest level of scholarship and makes possible rich, interdisciplinary, object-based conversations on the drawing medium’s history, theory, criticism, and practice.
Fellows receive a stipend ($3,000 per month) to cover living and other expenses incurred during the 9-month fellowship, lasting from September to June, and they are housed in a fully furnished apartment within a recently refurbished historic bungalow on the Menil campus. They are assigned a workspace at the Menil Drawing Institute to use for the duration of the fellowship and have access to the collections, archives, library, and staff at the Menil.
Application materials and inquiries should be submitted to mdimenil.org by December 15, 2023. All applicants will be notified of the Menil’s decision by late January 2024.
