Ausschreibung einer Professur für Baukultur (gem. § 98 UG)

An der Kunstuniversität Linz gelangt am Institut für Raum und Design (Abteilung die architektur) die Stelle einer Universitätsprofessorin / eines Universitätsprofessors für „Baukultur” gem. § 98 (1) UG2002 in vollem Beschäftigungsausmaß mit Beginn Oktober 2023 zur Besetzung. Die Bezahlung erfolgt nach § 49 (1) KV und beträgt Euro 5.826,50 brutto pro Monat, wobei eine eventuelle Überzahlung Gegenstand der Berufungsverhandlungen sein kann.
Die Vertragsdauer beträgt vorerst fünf Jahre. Eine Entfristung ist möglich.

Das Land Oberösterreich hat die Professur für fünf Jahre gestiftet.
Der neue Bereich Baukultur wird in Kooperation mit dem Institut für Geschichte und Theorie der Architektur an der Katholischen Privatuniversität Linz eingerichtet. Die Professur soll durch Lehre, Forschung und breite Vermittlungsarbeit in die Gesellschaft und Politik, Themen und Strategien der Baukultur entwickeln, profilieren und fördern.

Verortet in der Architekturabteilung der Kunstuniversität Linz, an der baukulturelle Anliegen seit vielen Jahren einen bestimmenden Rahmen bilden, entsteht mit der Professur ein Raum für gesellschaftlich relevante Auseinandersetzungen mit baukulturellen Themen und Diskursen. Im Rahmen der Forschungs- und Lehrtätigkeit der Professur werden grundlegende Wertediskussionen erwartet, die der sozialen, kulturellen, ökonomischen und ökologischen Bedeutung der gebauten Umwelt Rechnung tragen. Die Professur beschäftigt sich kritisch mit verschiedenen baukulturellen Ansätzen und bezieht sich damit auf einen reflexiven Kulturbegriff. Es handelt sich nicht um eine klassische Entwurfsprofessur.

Die Professur soll sich kritisch, aktiv und vorausschauend in der Bau-, sowie Raumkultur engagieren und kommunale, regionale, nationale Initiativen vernetzen. Sie arbeitet mit zahlreichen Akteur*innen und Initiativen der Baukultur zusammen und ist damit wesentlicher Teil einer Kompetenzbildung für baukulturelle Fragestellungen (Plattform für Baukultur) in Oberösterreich.

Grundlagendiskurse und Themen baukultureller Fragen sind eng mit der Praxis und mit projektorientierter, partizipativer Arbeit verknüpft. Vernetzen, vermitteln, Initiativen setzen und Strategien entwickeln zählen zu den nach außen orientierten Hauptaufgaben der Professur.

Die Lehre adressiert in erster Linie Studierende der Architektur und der Lehramtsstudien und ist offen für geistes-, kulturwissenschaftliche und künstlerische Studierende.

Gesucht wird eine Persönlichkeit mit facheinschlägiger Erfahrung in der Konzeption und der diskursiven Analyse von Raum sowie den damit verbundenen Prozessen. Es werden interdisziplinäre Interessen und Kompetenzen im Bereich der gebauten Umwelt, der Baugeschichte beziehungsweise des baukulturellen Erbes, der Raumordnung und Regionalentwicklung erwartet. Die Kenntnis und aktive Auseinandersetzung mit politischen Prozessen und umweltrelevanten Themen(Nachhaltigkeitsdebatten) im Architektur- und Baubereich wird vorausgesetzt.

Die Professur soll international orientiert und gleichermaßen regional aktiv arbeiten.

Voraussetzungen:
- abgeschlossenes Studium, vorzugsweise im Bereich der Architektur oder einem der Felder der Raumgestaltung
- exzellente fachliche Qualifikation in Forschung, Lehre und baukultureller Praxis
- mehrjährige eingehende Auseinandersetzung mit Baukultur
- universitäre Lehrerfahrung im Hochschulbereich
- Kenntnis baukultureller Institutionen und Initiativen, sowie Kontakte zu deren Akteur*innen
- ausgezeichnete Vernetzung im fachlichen Kontext
- ausgezeichnete Kenntnis der deutschen Sprache, sehr gute Englischkenntnisse
- herausragende soziale Kompetenz und Teamfähigkeit
- herausragende Kommunikationsfähigkeiten
- Gender- und Diversitätskompetenz

Erwartet wird:
- Engagement im Aufbau inner- und außeruniversitärer Netzwerke
- große Kooperationsbereitschaft mit Akteur*innen der Baukultur

- Bereitschaft zur Betreuung von Abschlussarbeiten

University of Art and Design Linz invites applications for a full-time position as University Professor of “Building Culture” at the Institute of Space and Design (in the Department of Architecture) starting in October 2023 according to Section 98 (1) of the Austrian Universities Act (UG 2002).
The monthly salary of €5,826.50 (before tax and deductions) is based on Section 49 (1) of the collective bargaining agreement. The possibility of a higher salary can be the subject of appointment negotiations. The contract term is initially limited to five years. Permanent employment is possible.

The Province of Upper Austria has endowed the professorship for five years. The new subject of Building Culture is established in cooperation with the Institute of History and Theory of Architecture of the Catholic Private University Linz. The professorship is intended to develop, raise awareness for, and foster topics and strategies of building culture through teaching, research, and communicating with society and policymakers.

Situated in the Department of Architecture of University of Art and Design Linz, in which issues of building culture have been a decisive frame of reference for many years, the professorship is intended to create a space for socially relevant engagement with topics and discussions on building culture. It is expected that the professor's research and teaching shall lead to discussions on values which do justice to the social, cultural, economic, and ecological significance of the built environment. The professor shall take a critical look at different approaches to building culture and thus draw on a reflective concept of culture. The position is not that of a traditional professor of design.

The professor is expected to play a critical, active, and forward-looking role not only in building culture, but also spatial culture, and network with local, regional, and national initiatives. The professor shall work together with numerous stakeholders and initiatives in building culture and is thus an essential part of developing competence in the area of building culture (Platform for Building Culture) in Upper Austria. Discussions on fundamental issues and topics of building culture are closely related to practice and project-oriented, participatory work. The outward-oriented activities of the professorship shall include networking, communicating, starting initiatives, and developing strategies.

The teaching is addressed first and foremost to architecture students and teacher training programs and is open to students from the humanities, cultural studies, and the fine arts. We are looking for someone with subject-related experience in the design and discursive analysis of space as well as the related processes. It is expected that the professor has interdisciplinary interests and skills in the area of the built environment, the history of building and the heritage of building culture, and regional planning and development. A further prerequisite is knowledge of and active engagement with political processes and topics affecting the environment (sustainability debates) in the architectural and building sector.

The work of the professor should be both internationally oriented and regionally active.

Essential Qualifications:
- University degree, preferably in architecture or one of the fields of space design
- Excellent professional qualifications in research, teaching, and the practice of building culture
- Several years of extensive engagement with building culture
- University teaching experience in the higher education sector
- Knowledge of building culture institutions and initiatives, as well as contacts to their stakeholders
- Outstanding network within the field
- Excellent knowledge of German, very good English skills
- Excellent social skills and teamwork
- Outstanding communication skills
- Gender and diversity competence Desired

Qualifications:
- Involvement in establishing networks within and outside the university
- Great willingness to cooperate with stakeholders in building culture
- Teaching skills
- Willingness to supervise degree theses
- Intensive engagement with how the building culture of the Province of Upper Austria has developed and comparable discussions on building culture
- Experience and involvement in acquiring third-party funds
- Active participation in university committees and working groups
- High level of presence on site
