International Student Sessions, The Art History Festival, 13th edition // Rencontres internationales étudiantes – Festival de l'histoire de l'art, 13e édition.

Subject: Belgium and the climate in spotlight.

The Art History Festival is a national event of the Ministry of Culture co-organized by the Fontainebleau Castle and the National Institute of Art History. It aims to highlight the discipline in the eyes of the greatest international professionals but also of the widest public. Through a varied programme of free activities for young and old, it has been structured since its creation around a theme and a guest country featured at each edition. For this 13th edition, the programme for June 2, 3 and 4, 2023 at Fontainebleau Castle and in various places nearby, is based on the theme of climate and Belgium: https://www.festivaldelhistoiredelart.fr/

The art history festival is intended to be a space for exchange and discovery for professionals but also for students pursuing a course in art history, heritage, museology... Events are specifically dedicated to them, such as practical or methodological workshops, a gallery of professions to encourage meetings between students and professionals, the competition "My thesis in art history and archaeology in 180 seconds" and international student meetings.

For the second consecutive year, the international student meetings will take the form of a research seminar, conducted in partnership with the Centre d'analyse culturelle de la Première modernité (GEMCA) of the University of Louvain-la-Neuve, the German Centre for Art History in Paris and the Institut National d'histoire de l'art in Paris. Their primary objective is to bring together, dialogue and collaborate with students from Belgian, French and German universities, thus creating a true international exchange and promoting scientific and methodological debates.

As a training tool as well as a space for putting art history into practice, this seminar will be articulated in two sessions. The first will take place from April 24 to 26, 2023 in Louvain-la-Neuve, Antwerp and Brussels. Three days of seminars will be animated by researchers and curators from universities and museums, focusing on issues related to research methods, museographic questions and cultural policies. The second session will take place during the festival, from June 1 to 4 at the Château de Fontainebleau. The selected participants will be invited to share the fruits of their theoretical and methodological reflections during several meetings, while taking advantage of the conferences, round tables, screenings and other events that make up the festival's rich program.

DATES:
1st session: April 24th to 26th, 2023, in Louvain-la-Neuve, Antwerp and Brussels
2nd session: June 1st to 4th, 2023, at the Château de Fontainebleau (festival)
