Lise Meitner Research Group
Tenure track positions at Max Planck Institutes

The Max-Planck-Gesellschaft zur Förderung der Wissenschaften e.V. is an independent, non-profit research organization, whose goal is to promote top quality research at its institutes. The 86 research institutes of the Max-Planck-Gesellschaft conduct basic research in Biology and Medicine; Chemistry, Physics and Technology; and the Human Sciences, Social Sciences, Cognitive (Neuro)Sciences, and Law. The Max-Planck-Gesellschaft is particularly interested in supporting innovative and interdisciplinary research areas.

The Max Planck Society (Max-Planck-Gesellschaft zur Förderung der Wissenschaften e.V.) invites outstanding applicants to apply for permanent tenure-track Lise Meitner Research Group Leader positions. The appointments will be made in partnership with relevant Max Planck Institutes according to the applicants’ research topics. With the Lise Meitner Excellence Program, the Max Planck Society expressly aims to attract and promote the careers of outstanding female scientists who are at an early stage of their scientific career and have a documented track record of independent and innovative research.

The successful candidates will be offered a Lise Meitner Research Group at a relevant Max Planck Institute for an initial period of five years. The funding package includes a W2 tenure-track position (equivalent to Assistant/Associate Professor), resources for scientific staff and running costs as well as a highly competitive start-up package. Upon successful tenure evaluation, no later than five years after the start of the group, the W2 position and the financial support will be continued. Further career development is possible including guaranteed consideration for a Max Planck Director position within the Max Planck Society.

The purpose of the Lise Meitner Excellence Program is to increase the number of outstanding female scientists in the Max Planck Society. Therefore, the program primarily focuses on the recruitment of outstanding female scientists, though it is open to all applicants (for details, see https://www.mpg.de/11963177/faqs-to-lise-meitner-excellence-program).

Furthermore, the MPG is committed to increasing the number of individuals with disabilities in its workforce and therefore encourages applications from such qualified individuals.

The successful candidates will have the option to participate in a tenure track program that leads to a tenured W2 position and continued financial support of the research group after a successful evaluation.

Further career development is possible for these excellent female scientists, including the consideration for a prospective W3 position within the Max Planck Society.

Your application should include:
- a CV,
- a cover letter,
- a list of publications,
- copies of three most important publications,
- a one-page summary of scientific achievements,
- a max. three page research statement,
- and two letters of recommendation.
Please apply via the https://lotus2.gwdg.de/mpg/mmgv/lmg_2021.nsf/portal.

The Bibliotheca Hertziana - Max Planck Institute for Art History, Rome, invites applications for Lise Meitner Groups, but does not preselect proposals nor provide letters of recommendation.
