Tutor in Art Criticism (2 days) at the Royal College of Art, London
The Royal College of Art has a long history of achievement in art and design
education, numerous eminent graduates and a remarkable record of graduate
employment. The School of Humanities consists of three departments, Critical
and Historical Studies, Curating Contemporary Art and History of Design
(launched in 1982 in collaboration with the Victoria and Albert Museum -
V&A). Following a successful validation, a new Humanities department of
Critical Writing in Art and Design is being launched in October 2010.
Together these departments provide an opportunity to study and research the
history, philosophy, critical interpretation and curating of art, craft,
design and communications.
We are seeking a Tutor in Art Criticism, to work on a two day per week
basis, within the newly formed Department of Critical Writing. Teaching on
the new MA will offer students the opportunity to develop skills as writers
in the diverse contexts where contemporary art and design are promoted and
discussed, across all disciplines within the College. Your responsibilities
will include contributing to the taught elements of the course, and, in
conjunction with the Head of Department, the design and planning of the MA
curriculum. You will also contribute to the examination and assessment
procedures and department publications. You will be an experienced teacher
of postgraduate students within the field of Art History and should be able
to contribute by research and professional practice and through publication,
exhibition or equivalent to the advancement of learning in your specialised
discipline. The appointment will be made at 2 days per week and the salary
range is GBP 41,085 -GBP 45,974 pro rata.
