and what kind of dialogue can the art residency mechanisms create?
Round Table Number 01: Intricate Mobility in Artist Residencies
Introduction by Gaby Ron- Art Residency in Conflicted Areas research
process and conclusions.
The first session will feature art curator Serra Ozhan from
Apartment Project Residency in Istanbul and Nini Palavandishvili
from GeoAIR residency Georgia.
During the event Ozhan and Palavandishvili will be reflect and
share their experience from the collaborative project "Reciprocal
Visit". The project was based on the artists in residency journey
from Turkey to Georgia through Armenia, Azerbaijan and Iran in
April 2009.
The story of "Reciprocal Visit" will act as the point of departure
of this round table. The round table discussion will challenge
issues regarding mobility and its significance as a primary means
for generating a residency environment. Examining the tools to
encourage dialogue and cross cultural connections in areas of
conflict where regions political, racial and religious differences
limit the mobility of people and exchange of ideas.
The group discussion will endeavor questions such as: How can the
art residencies mechanism evolve in theses regions? What is the
significant of physical participation in art residencies in
conflicted environments? How can the virtual tools support the
immobility in these environments? Can the virtual platform exist
without the real?
This round table in interested in the participant point of view.
Artists, architectures, curators and cultural entrepreneurs.
Please feel free to bring to the table issues from your practice
and to rise questions from your areas on interest.
