Up to c. £29,000 p.a.
Temporary 12 month contract (maternity cover) Based in Cambridge
English Heritage protects and provides advice on this country's unique legacy
of historic buildings, landscapes and archaeological sites. We also manage
over 400 sites and welcome in excess of 11 million visitors to these each year.
Knowledge is the prerequisite for caring successfully for England's historic
environment. It enriches enjoyment and underpins the process of change. In
recognition of this, English Heritage undertakes and facilitates exemplary
research and this is an exciting opportunity to get involved in our historic
built environment research programmes.
As either a Senior Investigator or an Investigator, you will play a key role
in a small, busy team, researching and analysing historic buildings and
areas. You will provide authoritative professional and specialist advice in
the fields of architectural history and building and areas analysis, and
assist with training and outreach programmes. You will also contribute to the
development of new research projects that support the needs of the historic
environment. Although you are primarily based in our Cambridge office, you
will be required to travel widely, which will include staying overnight.
You should have a good degree or post-graduate qualification (or equivalent)
in history, architectural history, buildings archaeology or a related
discipline, and a good record of academic publication. You will have a broad
knowledge of architectural history with a specialism in one or more areas, as
well as being accomplished in analysing buildings and areas and in
undertaking primary research. Good team working and communication skills are
essential.

You will be responsible for:
- researching and publishing at a level commensurate with entry in the
Brookes submission to the RAE
- attracting external funding to support research
- supervising research students
- contributing to the expansion and further development of Art at
undergraduate and postgraduate levels
- teaching and assessing Art at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
You should have:
- an active and on-going programme of research appropriate for entry in the
Brookes submission to the RAE
- the ability to make a contribution to the research culture of the School
- an ability to secure external research funding
- research and teaching expertise
- experience of teaching and researching in higher education
- a First Degree or equivalent in Art or a closely-related discipline
