The University

Zayed University, the premier university in the United Arab Emirates, is
an exciting and innovative young institution committed to the education of
Emirati women. It has about 130 faculty and 1200 students on each of its
campuses in Abu Dhabi and Dubai. Zayed University graduates bilingual
students who are global in their thinking and equipped to become leaders
of their country and role models for women in the Arab world. The
educational programs delivered through five colleges feature
interdisciplinary and integrative pedagogy, and incorporate extensive use
of educational technology. The principal language of instruction is
English. Zayed University, although primarily an undergraduate
institution, does offer graduate programs in selected fields. Faculty
responsibilities include teaching, research, and community service and
outreach. Zayed University is fully accredited in the U.A.E. and is a
candidate for accreditation with the Middle States Commission for Higher
Education in the U.S.A.

The United Arab Emirates is a progressive country known for its high
standard of living and its safe, family-friendly environment.

The College

The College of Arts and Sciences is the largest of Zayed University's five
colleges, both in terms of the number of faculty and the diversity of its
programs, offering B.A. programs in Art and Design, Social and Behavioral
Sciences and a B.S. in Health Sciences. The Department of Art and Design
provides concentrations in Graphic Design, Interior Design, 3-D Animation
and Visual Arts.

The Opportunity

We are seeking experienced professionals in the area of Art History for a
one to three year appointment to join our Arts and Design Program. Our
faculty prepare our students for careers in the creative arts as well as the
design industry within the region and internationally. In addition to
teaching responsibilities, they liaise extensively with external
constituents to further the mission of the University within the community.

The expectation for instruction ranges from an introductory survey course to
the ability to design upper division specialized courses in contemporary as
well as historical art and design topics. The Department works closely with
faculty colleagues in other University disciplines.

For academic staff, the normal teaching load is three courses per semester,
with new course development and departmental/university responsibilities
accounting for the remaining portion of each full-time faculty position. All
courses are taught in English, with a limit of 18 or fewer students per
section. All faculty participate in policy and curriculum development for
the College, as well as participate in the College of Arts and Sciences'
interdisciplinary General Education curriculum.

The Requirements

Successful candidates will fully meet the expectations for the position,
which includes a Ph.D. in the History of Art, and a desire to teach within a
university setting. Previous teaching experience at the college level is a
decided advantage. All teaching positions require the integration of
Web-based technology in the classroom and teaching practice plus extensive
use of the Internet as part of providing an interactive learning
environment.

The Benefits

The University's benefits package is highly attractive, with competitive
salaries free of tax in the United Arab Emirates, housing, a furniture
allowance, annual vacation airline tickets for the employee and his/her
family, educational subsidies for children and subsidized healthcare for the
employee.
