Lectureship in the History of Art

The History of Art Department is seeking to appoint a full-time lecturer in ONE of the following areas:

The History/Theory of Architecture, Urban Space and the Built Environment (preferably before 1900). Applicants with a strong interest in basing some of their teaching around London and its physical/spatial aspects are especially welcome. Cultural geographers who engage with these fields will also be considered.

OR

Byzantine-and/or Medieval Art broadly defined (areas of interest may include architecture, spatial studies, representational practices, ritual, cultural transmission/conflict). Applicants with a strong interest in historiography, geo-political formations in the period (for example in the Eastern Mediterranean) and a demonstrable engagement with current critical debates in the discipline would be particularly welcome.

The successful candidate would join a thriving department with close links to London’s museum and gallery networks and in a university with its own important collections. They would contribute to teaching, take on administrative responsibility, be research active and generate research income by actively pursuing and applying for appropriate research grants.

Salary will be on either the UCL scheme Grade 7 (£35, 557 - £38, 595 inclusive of LW of £2,806 per annum) or Grade 8 (£39,668 - £49,501 inclusive of LW of £2,806) depending on experience.
