School of Art and Design
Lecturer in Critical, Historical and Theoretical Studies in Visual
Art Ref: J03/275/W

The successful applicant will focus upon the teaching of critical
historical and theoretical studies in an interdisciplinary fine and
applied arts context, and upon advancing the research and profile of the
subject at national level or above. The post is based at the Belfast
campus and is available from 1 September 2003.

Applicants must have a first or second class honours degree or
equivalent in art or the history or theory of art or a related
subject and have had at least three years' experience of teaching at
undergraduate level in higher education including working with a
range of teaching and learning methods.

For appointment to a permanent post applicants must have a track
record of national level publications in peer reviewed academic
journals and/or research orientated design practice appropriate for
inclusion in the RAE. Applicants at an earlier stage of their
research career, with proven evidence of research potential, e.g.
either practice or theory research publications and/or publications
in progress, will be considered for a fixed-term appointment of three
years.

Salary: £22,191 - £33,679

Lecturers in Design for Architecture (two posts) Ref: : J03/276/W

The successful applicants will be based with the existing BA Design
team in the School of Art and Design and will also contribute to the
development and implementation of the new BSc Architecture course,
which is to be taught by the School of Art and Design in conjunction
with the School of the Built Environment. The posts are based at the
Belfast campus and are available from 1 September 2003. The
postholders will also be required to work at the Jordanstown campus.

Applicants must have a first or second class honours degree in
design, architecture or related subject and have had at least three
years' experience in 3D design or architecture practice including
experience of the technical underpinning of the subject. They must
have relevant experience in two or more of the following areas:
computer aided design; 3-D virtual design presentation; project
management. Also essential is experience of university lecturing in
design or architectural studies to undergraduate level and in
communicating design history and culture and contemporary and future
issues for the subject.

For appointment to a permanent post applicants must have a track
record of national level publications in peer reviewed academic
journals and/or research orientated design practice appropriate for

The successful applicant will focus upon the teaching of
communication design in an interdisciplinary visual communication
context at BA and Masters level, and upon advancing the research
profile of the subject at national level or above. The post is based
at the Belfast campus and is available from 1 September 2003.

Applicants must have a first or second class honours degree or
equivalent in a communication design discipline and have had at least
seven years' professional or academic experience in the field of
communication design and at least three years' experience of teaching
a communication design discipline at undergraduate level in higher
education. They must also have a significant number of RAE standard
publications in the field of visual communication or design (research
papers and/or exhibitions or equivalent) with national level impact
since 1998 and demonstrate evidence of ability to gain and manage
research funding

Salary: £35,251 - £39,958
