After Genocide: Trauma, Memory, and Forgiving

The impact of genocide reverberates long after the tragic event. The
profound experience of trauma, both personal and collective, can manifest
itself in a variety of ways, including
its representations in literature and art. Although we usually focus on
individual or national memory of the victim group, perpetrators and
perpetrator nations often try to deal with genocide too. This may take the
form of expressions of recognition, contrition, pleas for forgiveness, or
various ways of reconstituting memory.

We invite panel submissions that deal with these post-genocide topics from a
feminist and/or socialist perspective.

Our panel will be co-sponsored by the Society for Socialist Studies & the
Canadian Sociology Anthropology Association (and possibly by the Canadian
Women's Studies Association).

The deadline for the submission of abstracts is 1 October 2002.
