Opening for a Visiting Assistant Professor

Medieval Art and Architecture

The Department of Art History and Archaeology announces an appointment for a
Visiting Assistant Professor for one or two semesters, pending funding.
Applicants should be specialists in medieval art and architecture. The PhD
must be completed by August 15, 2001 for appointment at this rank. Salary
and benefits are competitive.

The department offers the BA, MA, and PhD degrees in classical archaeology
and art history. This position requires teaching in introductory and
intermediate surveys as well as advanced
(undergraduate/graduate) lecture courses in both programs. The department
includes nine full-time faculty. There are normally about 60 undergraduate
majors and 25 graduate students. Graduate degrees in art history and
archaeology can be combined with interdisciplinary minors in Ancient
Studies, Medieval and Renaissance Studies, Museum Studies, Historic
Preservation, and Women Studies. The University of Missouri-Columbia is the
main campus of the state university system and offers a broad range of
undergraduate and graduate programs.

Full-Time Tenure Track: Asian/Non-Western Art

INDIANA UNIVERSITY-PURDUE UNIVERSITY INDIANAPOLIS, Herron School
of Art. Assistant Professor, tenure-track, beginning August 2001.
Historian of Asian art preferred. Will also consider specialization in
Native American or other non-Western field. Requirements include PhD by
date of appointment, university-level teaching experience, evidence of
scholarly potential, ability to communicate effectively with a diverse
student population. Familiarity with digital technologies in teaching
desirable. Responsibilities include teaching three courses per semester
and participation in service. Teaching assignments include art history
survey (ancient-medieval and/or world art segments) and upper level
undergraduate courses in area(s) of expertise. Opportunity to teach in
established summer study abroad program in China and/or develop
additional overseas programming. Herron School of Art is a school of
Indiana
University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI), a rapidly expanding
urban university with an enrollment of 27,000 students. Herron is an
established professional art school, accredited by the National
Association of Schools of Art and Design, employing 47 full-time faculty
members. 700 students seek BFA degrees in fine arts and visual
communications, BAE-MAE degrees in art education, BA in art history.
