The Institute of Art History (Faculty of History) at the Ruhr-University Bochum invites applications for a

Professorship (German Salary Scale W2, 5-year-position)
„The Practice of Conservation and Museum Management (both Theory and Didactics) with a Focus on International Contemporary Art“

funded by the Foundation Situation Kunst, to start as soon as possible.

The position is based at the interface of museum history, theory and practice. It should reflect the museum as a space of interdisciplinary, theoretically reflective action.

The successful candidate will be required to cover the field of modern and contemporary art and art theory and be current in the history of museum display and museum didactics. The future post holder will be expected to develop a number of different approaches to appeal to and engage different museum audiences and to conceive and organise exhibition projects within the context of ‘Situation Kunst’.

He or she will help students to develop museum skills on all levels. Work in interdisciplinary and transcultural networks is desirable; networking in the international art scene is a matter of course.

Requirements

The successful candidate will be expected to have the following qualifications:
- Excellent PhD as well as additional academic achievements, demonstrated e. g. through publications, exhibition concepts or similar on subjects of modern and contemporary art and museology.
- Experience in the conception, organization and implementation of innovative exhibitions and educational concepts
- Further research in the field of modern and contemporary art and museology, as evidenced by publications
- Proof of the acquisition of third-party funds in the museum field
- Proof of special suitability for academic teaching

In addition, the following qualifications are desirable:
- Experience in public relations
- Experience in international networking
- Experience in cooperating with museums and other art institutions

The future post holder should also be prepared to:
- acquire third-party funding
- engage in networking in the museum and academic field
- contribute to the university’s self-governance
