Open rank Professorship in Digital Humanities

The professorship is located at the Walter Benjamin Kolleg.

Requirements

Depending on qualifications, this 50%-100% position will be appointed at the rank of either Assistant Professor (tenure track) or Professor without chair (Extraordinariat). A candidate appointed at the rank of Assistant Professor will, after successfully completing a probationary period, be promoted to Professor without chair.

The person who takes up this professorship will represent the Digital Humanities in both their teaching and research. In this regard, the successful candidate is expected to have already undertaken significant computer-assisted research in the Humanities. We are looking for someone who can enhance Digital Humanities methods relating to sociocultural issues, as well as someone who will cooperate with other Faculty members doing digital scholarship on, for example, texts, images, music, and objects. The academic requirements for this position are a completed PhD in the Humanities as well as a Habilitation (or equivalent qualification such as a second book) or an advanced qualifying research project. In assessing Habilitation equivalence, other special Digital Humanities achievements may be considered.

The candidate should have experience in raising external (‘third-party’) funding and have a good working knowledge of the German language. Job-sharing is possible. The candidate may set her/his employment status between 50% and 100%.

The Digital Humanities professorship is affiliated with our interdisciplinary Walter Benjamin Kolleg (http://www.wbkolleg.unibe.ch/). The position represents the Faculty of Humanities’ strategy for permanently establishing a programme of research and teaching in the Digital Humanities. We are therefore looking for someone committed to interdisciplinary cooperation across a broad range of the subject areas in the Faculty.

The University of Bern is committed to equal opportunities hiring, increasing the number of women in senior academic positions. Women are therefore encouraged to apply.
