Sarah Lippert, University of Michigan-Flint

The Society for Paragone Studies and its sister organization the Association for Textual Scholarship in Art History, both affiliates of the College Art Association and SECAC, are jointly hosting the 6th Annual International Conference in Paragone Studies to be held in Ann Arbor Michigan on the University of Michigan campus. ATSAH is dedicated to scholarship that ties text to practice while the Paragone Society studies the history of artistic rivalry, from any period and in any medium. Scholars are invited to submit abstracts of relevance to either co-host of 200 words with a current c.v. to paragonestudiesgmail.com by August 10, 2018. Acceptances will be adjudicated as papers are submitted until the deadline with all application results disseminated by August 12, 2018. Those needing to book international travel early or needing documentation of acceptance for funding opportunities should apply before the deadline to receive advanced adjudication. Submitting an application should be considered a commitment to present if your paper is accepted and regardless of funding that you may or may not receive from your institution. Presenters are required to be members of the Paragone Society and ATSAH by the time of the conference. Visits to the University of Michigan Museum of Art, the Kelsey Museum of Archaeology, and the Detroit Institute of Arts will be included in the conference schedule. Paper topics might include, but are not limited to, intra or inter-arts rivalries or those associated with aesthetic theory, art criticism, patronage, digital culture, material culture, arts institutions, individual artists, nationalism, etc. Practicing artists are also welcome to apply. Only those registered will appear in the program. http://blogs.umflint.edu/paragonesociety/. For questions contact paragonestudiesgmail.com.
