Lecturer in Art and Visual Culture Before 1700

The Department of History of Art is seeking to appoint a full-time Lecturer in Art and Visual Culture before 1700 to begin on 1 September 2018. The successful candidate will join a thriving department known for its commitment to critical theory and innovative approaches to the study of histories of art and visual culture, as well as for its shared interests in visual technologies, materials and materiality, and urban and public space. The position will complement existing strengths in early modern Italian and Northern European art / visual culture and we particularly invite applications in the areas of the Eastern Mediterranean, the African continent and the Americas. The department has close links to London's museum and gallery network and is situated in a university with its own important collections. The appointee will contribute to teaching, take on administrative responsibility, be research active and generate research grant income by actively pursuing and applying for appropriate research grants.
Command of theoretical and historiographical questions in the specialist field and an ability and willingness to engage with current debates in the discipline of History of Art are essential.

Salary: £38,581 to £41,864 per annum
