Prof. Dr. Sarah E. Fraser

English Version

The Institute for East Asian Art History of Ruprecht-Karls-University Heidelberg would like to invite you to attend the syposium on „CROSS MEDIA PORCELAIN“ from March 31 to April 1. 2016.

Cross Media Porcelain is a symposium that considers the migration of themes and motifs across media––woodblock prints, paintings, porcelains and ultimately early photographies during the 17th-19th century. The 17th c. transitional period in porcelain production when official kilns in Jingdezhen were shut during the Ming-Qing transition is our starting point. Participants discuss the expansion of narratives on porcelain surfaces and the emerging dominance of the female form, especially in vessels exported or made for export. Several symposium papers explore the emergence of 'chinoiserie' and its imbededness in objects created in transcultural exchange between Europe and Asia.

Venue: Seminar Room 311, Institut of East Asian Art History, Ruprecht-Karls-University Heidelberg, Seminarstraße 4, 69117 Heidelberg
