International Colloquium
“Between Revolution and Reaction. French Art in the European Context, 1750-1830”

Due to political and social Umwälzungen/alterations, between ca. 1750 and 1830 political key notions and esthetical conceptions of the modern era changed considerably. It therefore seems legitimate to consider the decades around 1800 as an epoch-making turn. The colloquium offers insights into current research concerning French art of this period. It focuses on the dynamics between revolution and reaction as well as on functions of the cultural policy during the French revolutionary period and on the establishment of new artistic pictorial/Zeichen- and symbolic systems.

The half-day colloquium offers six doctoral students the possibility to present their dissertation project in a paper that should not be longer than 10 minutes. Papers and discussions can be in German, French, and English.
Speakers residing outside Munich will receive a lump sum of 200,- euro covering travel expenses. Applications containing a short cv and an abstract of the paper (not to exceed 3000 signs in length) must be sent to frz1800zikg.eu by February 15, 2016.

„Zwischen Revolution und Reaktion. Französische Kunst in Europa, 1750-1830“

Schlüsselbegriffe des politischen Denkens der Moderne und ästhetische
Konzepte unterlagen infolge politisch-sozialer Umwälzungen in der Zeit
zwischen 1750 und 1830 einem beschleunigten Bedeutungswandel. Es scheint
daher legitim, von einer „Epochenschwelle um 1800“ zu sprechen. Das
Kolloquium bietet einen Einblick in aktuelle Forschungen zur französischen
Kunst in diesem Zeitraum. Hierbei soll die Dynamik zwischen Revolution und
Reaktion ebenso betont werden wie die kulturpolitische Funktion von Kunst
in der Zeit der Französischen Revolution sowie die Errichtung neuer
künstlerischer Zeichen- und Symbolsysteme.

Das halbtägige Kolloquium bietet sechs DoktorandInnen die Möglichkeit, in
einem zehnminütigen Beitrag ihr Dissertationsprojekt vorzustellen (in
deutscher, französischer oder englischer Sprache). Auswärtige
ReferentInnen erhalten einen pauschalen Reisekostenzuschuss in Höhe von
200,- Euro.
Bitte bewerben Sie sich bis zum 15. Februar 2016 mit einem kurzen
Lebenslauf und einem maximal 3000 Zeichen umfassenden Exposé Ihres

"Entre révolution et réaction. L’art français et l’Europe, 1750-1830“

Entre 1750 et 1830, les notions clé de la pensée politique et les
conceptions esthétiques subirent un bouleversement radical. Il paraît
alors légitime de désigner les années autour de 1800 comme l’”âge
des révolutions” sur le seuil de la modernité. Le colloque présente
des recherches actuelles sur l’art français de cette période, notamment
sur des phénomènes dynamiques entre révolution et réaction, les
fonctions politiques de l’art à l’époque de la révolution française
et l’établissement de nouveaux systèmes de signes et de symboles
artistiques.

Le colloque offrira à six doctorants la possibilité de présenter leur
projets de thèse dans une communication d’une durée maximale de 10
minutes. Les communications et les discussions seront admises en allemand,
français ou anglais. Les doctorants ne pas résidant à Munich recevront
un forfait de 200,- euros pour couvrir les frais de voyage.
Les doctorants souhaitant participer au colloque sont priés de faire
parvenir un bref cv ainsi qu’une proposition de communication qui ne
devra pas dépasser 3000 signes avant le 15 février 2016 à l’adresse
