On Thursday November 10, 2011, at 4:30 PM, Petra ten-Doesschate Chu will give the sixteenth Horst Gerson Memorial Lecture in the Auditorium of the University of Groningen, The Netherlands. Dr. Petra ten-Doesschate Chu is Professor of Art History and Director Graduate Studies in Museum Professions at Seton Hall University, South Orange (NJ), U.S.A. The title of her lecture will be: ‘Eye, Memory, Hand: the Nineteenth-Century Debate about the Role of Visual Memory in the Creative Process’. It will be published as volume 16 of the series ‘Gerson Lectures’.
Professor ten-Doesschate Chu is one of the leading authorities on 19th century art and the author of the highly acclaimed hand book Nineteenth-Century European Art, of which the 3rd revised edition appeared in December 2010. She has published numerous books, on Gustave Courbet and various aspects of 19th century French art, and has widely contributed to scholarly journals and exhibition catalogues.
The Gerson Lecture will be preceded by a program centering on 19th century art and art appreciation and will take place in the Doopsgezinde Kerk, Oude Boteringestraat 33, Groningen.
