Das IKKM - Internationales Kolleg für Kulturtechnikforschung und Medienphilosophie (Bauhaus-Universität Weimar) schreibt zum 1. Oktober 2011

drei Postdoktoranden-Stipendien

von jeweils bis zu fünfzehn Monaten für Forscherinnen und Forscher aus, die ihre Promotion abgeschlossen haben oder kurz vor dem Abschluss stehen (Gutachten zur Dissertation müssen vorliegen). Thematisch einschlägige Bewerbungen aus allen geisteswissenschaftlichen Gebieten sind willkommen, besonders erwünscht sind Forschungsprojekte aus den Bereichen der Medien-, Kunst-, Architektur-, Technik- und Wissenschaftsgeschichte sowie der Philosophie.

Das Research-Fellow-Programm beschäftigt sich mit der Geschichte und Theorie des Entwerfens, insbesondere mit den Werkzeugen und Modi des entwerfenden Handelns, also jenen Verfahrensweisen, die im Gebrauch der Instrumente entwickelt werden. Es vertieft dabei einen der zentralen Forschungsschwerpunkte des IKKM: die Frage nach der Handlungsmacht nichtmenschlicher Agenten. Indem das Research-Fellow-Programm die Geschichte und Theorie des Entwerfens in den Blick nimmt, versucht es die Exteriorität des Gestaltens, Bildens und Denkens in methodischer wie thematischer Weise zuzuspitzen: Sowohl in Bezug auf den Begriff des Werkzeugs, der vom Standpunkt der neueren Kulturtechnik- und Wissenschaftsforschung aus einer kritischen Revision unterzogen werden soll, als auch in Bezug auf den Begriff des Entwerfens als einer Praxis, die den neuzeitlichen Künstler, Architekten, Ingenieur und Wissenschaftler kennzeichnet und begründet. Erwartet wird die Bereitschaft zur regelmäßigen Teilnahme an den Kolloquien und Veranstaltungen des Research-Fellow-Programms und des IKKM. Es wird vorausgesetzt, dass die Bewerberinnen und Bewerber ihre eigene Forschungsarbeit als auch die anderer in Englisch diskutieren können. Die Höhe der Stipendien orientiert sich an den Förderrichtlinien der DFG. Die Finanzierung erfolgt aus Mitteln des Landesprogramms ProExzellenz des Freistaats Thüringen.

Bewerbungen von Frauen sind besonders erwünscht. Die Bewerbungsunterlagen sollen einen Lebenslauf (incl. Bibliographie), einen Probetext (z.B. ein Kapitel der Dissertation oder ein Artikel) und ein Projektexposé (maximal 800 Wörter) enthalten, das ein historisches und/oder theoretisches Thema aus dem Forschungsfeld des Research-Fellow-Programms aufgreift. The IKKM - Internationales Kolleg für Kulturtechnikforschung und Medienphilosophie (Bauhaus-Universität Weimar) announces

three postdoctoral fellowships

for up to 15 months, starting in October 2011. Applications are welcome from qualified candidates of all disciplinary backgrounds, particularly from media, art and architectural history, from philosophy, and from science and technology studies. Research proposals should relate to the program’s theme (see description below). Eligible candidates must hold a doctorate at the time the position begins and show evidence of scholarly promise in the form of publications and other achievements.

The Research Fellow Program is concerned with the history and theory of design processes. It focuses especially on its tools and techniques. The program is closely related to one of the central research emphases of the IKKM: the question as to non-human agents’ capacity to act. In focusing on the history and theory of drafting, the Research Fellow Program attempts to intensify the exteriority of forming and thinking, both methodologically and thematically: First by dealing with the concept of the tool, subjecting it to a critical revision from the perspective of contemporary research on cultural techniques and science; and secondly, by regarding the concept of drafting as a practice that characterizes and grounds the modern artist, architect, engineer and scientist. Scholars of all nationalities are welcome to apply. The IKKM is an international and interdisciplinary research institute. The colloquium language is English. It is expected that candidates are able to present their own work and discuss that of others fluently in that language. Fellows are expected to take part to the scholarly life of the Institute, to advance their own research project, and to actively contribute to the Research Fellow Program’s activities. The scholarship amounts are based on DFG funding guidelines. They will be financed by funds from the ProExcellence program of the Free State of Thuringia.
