Tenure-Track Position for History of African Art and Art of the African Diaspora

The Department of History of Art and Architecture at Middlebury College invites applications for a tenure-track position in the History of African Art and Art of the African Diaspora. In addition to offering surveys of African art, architecture, visual culture, and/or objects created in diasporic contexts, the successful candidate will teach mid- and upper-level courses in their areas of expertise as well as participate in the departmental rotation of teaching an introduction to global visual culture. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in the First Year Seminar program, advise senior work, and contribute to the wider intellectual life of the College, especially the Black Studies Program. Full-time faculty teach an average of 4.5 courses per year, 2/2 for Fall and Spring, with alternating ‘on’ and ‘off’ years of teaching in Winter Term during the month of January. Appointments will be made at the instructor (ABD) or Assistant Professor level. Applicants should have experience teaching undergraduates and have an active research agenda.
