Call for Nominations for Editors, Panorama, Journal of AHAA

Panorama, Journal of the Association of Historians of American Art, 01.01.2023
Deadline/Anmeldeschluss: 04.11.2022

Jessica Routhier, Panorama, Journal of the Association of Historians of American Art

Panorama (journalpanorama.org), the online, peer-reviewed journal of the Association of Historians of American Art (AHAA), is seeking a Co-Executive Editor to take a collaborative leadership role in shaping the journal’s future as we approach the tenth anniversary of its founding. We welcome and encourage applications and nominations from museum professionals, independent scholars, and academics. Candidates who work in adjacent or interdisciplinary fields and are grounded in art-historical inquiry and visual and material culture study are welcome.

The new editor will be part of a team of Executive Editors (including Keri Watson, Associate Professor of Art History, University of Central Florida and Katherine Jentleson, Merrie and Dan Boon Curator of Folk and Self-Taught Art, High Museum of Art) who work collaboratively with the Managing Editor and Section Editors to produce two issues per year. They set strategic direction for the journal, develop policy, apply for funding, oversee the budget, chair monthly meetings with the editorial team, and serve as liaison to the Journal’s Advisory Board and AHAA board. Executive Editors are also responsible for the Feature Article, Colloquium, and In the Round sections of the journal. The ideal candidate will be an organized and detail-oriented individual with an excellent record of scholarship.

Executive Editors serve staggered three-year terms, and this position will run from January of 2023 (with onboarding in late 2022) through 2025. This is a volunteer position that requires an estimated eight (8) hours a week of attention. Given the stature of the journal and prestige of this position, some Executive Editors have successfully applied to their home institutions for either part-time assistance or a course release. Nominees must be members in good standing of AHAA.
Not sure about joining the Executive Editor Team at this time? Panorama also seeks Editors for the Research Notes and Exhibition Reviews sections. Reporting to the Executive Editors, section editors commission content in their area, provide authors with guidance in terms of editorial development, and ensure that they are following Panorama’s style guide. They also participate in monthly conference calls and, as a member of the full editorial team, work together to shape strategic planning for the journal. Each of these sections is staffed by three editors, who serve staggered three-year terms. Incoming editors will commit to serve from 2023 through 2025. These are volunteer positions, and nominees must be current members of AHAA.

To apply for Executive Editor, or an Exhibition Reviews or Research Notes Editor: please send a CV and statement of interest by November 4, 2022, to journalpanoramagmail.com with the subject line “ EDITOR NOMINATION.”
