The University of Aberdeen wishes to appoint a Lecturer in Modern and/or Contemporary Art History (1 FTE, open-ended) from 1 September 2022.

Applicants should have a research and teaching focus on any area of modern and/or contemporary art. The successful candidate will contribute to the Art History department’s research profile through publications, projects and grant income generation. They will contribute to teaching across the undergraduate art history programme and develop specialist honours courses focusing on their field of expertise, with strong encouragement to work with University, civic and regional collections. The appointee will supervise PhDs and work with colleagues to develop further postgraduate offerings. The appointment will be made at lecturer level with expectation that applicants will have an academic publishing profile of demonstrable excellence.

The main purpose of this role is to fulfil teaching and supervision requirements of the Art History department at Aberdeen and to contribute to the research excellence of both the department and the School of History, Divinity, Philosophy and Art History. An important part of this post will be in the continuing development and delivery of the Art History programmes. The successful candidate will be expected to have a demonstrable ability to teach modern and/or contemporary art, to contribute broadly to the undergraduate teaching programme in Art History and to support and supervise the work of postgraduate students.

Key responsibilities
• Development and delivery of art history courses in their field of specialism at honours level
• Course design, coordination and teaching at all undergraduate levels in Art History
• Lectures and tutorials at sub-honours level
• Assessment of coursework
• Supervision of the work of postgraduate students and teaching of post-graduate options where appropriate
• Contribution to the research excellence of the School and delivery of personal research of a level and quality to enhance the next Research Exercise Framework submission
• General academic administration

Applicants should have a proven research record of demonstrable excellence in the discipline of Art History, and an ability to teach across that discipline.
Applicants should have a PhD in a relevant field, have experience of teaching in higher education, and possess excellent oral and written communication skills.

Salary will be at the appropriate point on Grade 7, £42,149 - £50,296 per annum, with placement according to qualifications and experience.
