The University of Bern is seeking to appoint an Assistant Professor in World Art History (100%)

This non-tenured assistant professorship, starting February 1st, 2023, is situated in both the Department of Art History and the Walter Benjamin Kolleg, the interdisciplinary research centre of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, initially for a period of four years, with a possible two-year extension (subject to funding).

The successful applicant will represent a comprehensive range of art-historical approaches to non-European Art History with a specialization in the Middle East, or, alternatively, South or East Asia or Latin America. S/he has a substantial record of research and teaching, is part of an international network and has successfully applied for external funding.

The appointee will be in charge of the field of specialisation within the Faculty’s interdisciplinary master and doctoral programmes, in particular the MA World Arts, and will also teach at the Department of Art History. In addition to directing students at all levels of study, the incumbent will also be expected to integrate World Art History within the research centre and the Department, to participate in departmental and interdisciplinary activities and to develop research projects related to her/his field. The ability to teach in English is expected; communication skills in German are considered an asset.

Academic requirements for this position are a completed PhD and a postdoctoral research project.
