Artificial Intelligence in Art and Culture

Tremendous advances in artificial intelligence (AI), particularly deep learning, have led to novel possibilities in artistic practice and are transforming the museum experience. For example, museums are introducing AI to give their visitors ways to engage more deeply and individually. AI can also help to gain new information about huge amount of collection data and to co-create images, music, and poetry that touch our souls and are sometimes even indistinguishable from human-created art. However, new developments in AI do not only offer novel tools to create art but at the same time raise critical questions about what it means to be creative – and whether a machine can truly be creative on its own. The special session focuses on new forms of human-machine interactions that broaden the horizon for applications of artificial intelligence in cultural productions.
