Applications are invited for a permanent Lectureship in Japanese Studies,
for which initial funding has been generously provided by the GB Sasakawa
Foundation. You should have research and teaching interests in Japanese
visual cultures (e.g. film, anime, manga, art, language, translation and
electronic media technologies) in the broad sense; those with interests in
other areas of visual culture are also encouraged to apply. You should
have completed a PhD and have a research agenda, a developing record of
publications, and a commitment to making grant applications to further
this agenda. You will contribute to the Japanese Studies teaching
programmes at all levels. Japanese Studies began at Manchester in 2007 and
this post offers applicants an exciting opportunity to join this new
academic venture and play a key role in shaping its research culture and
teaching profile.

We are looking for a Theorist/Historian from a fine art background with a
research specialism in photography or film theory. You should have
experience of teaching fine art at degree level preferably with a relevant
teaching qualification and should be able to demonstrate an engagement
with developments in contemporary art, film and photography. You should
also be able to demonstrate competence in the ability to prepare and
deliver lectures, to organise and run seminars etc.
