Gerhard Burian Ladner, der große Kunsthistoriker für Frühchtistentum u.
Mittelalter (Iconografia dei Papi etc.), zuletzt University of California.
Kunsthistoriker in Rom.

Dear Researchers, a friend at the Kunsthistorische Institut in Florence sent
on to me your request. The only person that immediately came to mind is Adolf
Placek. He was not on your short list but I feel sure that you have him on
your full list. We left Vienna shortly after our Matura. My husband probably
could have been more helpful. He might have known some of the art historians
who got their degrees in Vienna but were just a little older than we. I only
encountered or knew of the great professors. Should I hear of someone else I
shall write to you. ==== One thing that occurs to me is the fact that at
least someof these art historians may have negotiated with archives that might
preserve their papers after their death. Wevisited one important one in
Nuernberg and my husband decided to have his papers go to the Exilarchiv
1933-1945 at the Deutsche Bibliothek in Frankfurt am Main. The director of
that institution is Dr. Brita Eckert. My husband also considered the archive
of the City of Vienna in the Rathaus. I mention that archives because they
just may be able to name other art historians from Vienna.
Best wishes,
Raina Fehl
