Weaving Europe. Silk Heritage and Digital Technologies

Introduction
From flags to canopies, tapestries, furniture, bride clothing, traditional attire, etc., silk is found in countless historical contexts. Besides, it is also a multifaceted living heritage, beyond the textiles themselves, involving designers, weavers, engineers, painters, and merchants, among many others. Although the Silk Road is often associated with its Asian origins, its European ramifications were fundamental for the construction of today’s world.
This commercial and cultural connection extended throughout several centuries, allowing the exchange of goods and techniques, but also of ideas, religions, fashions, and arts at large. Such a space for exchange influenced the development of peoples and cities along its routes, leaving traces and influences in each of them, building a common and shared history. European silk heritage is linked to history, sociology, technology, and the arts.

Goals
This international conference aims at spreading recent research about historical silk fabrics, together with the latest technology applied to cultural heritage. The forum will merge professionals from different sector, such as museums, tourism, creative industries, innovative hubs, universities, etc. where heritage and technology are a shared interest.
The conference will also foster a collaborative code of practices to promote the defense and safeguarding of textile heritage.
Finally, it also disseminates methodologies on cataloguing and inventorying that will increase the cooperation among institutions, in order to share their data and provide open access to it.

Researchers and professors; undergraduate, graduate and Ph.D. students; tourism companies; creative industries; crafts and traditional industries; fashion professionals; silk industry.

This conference is organized by SILKNOW, a Horizon2020 (EU funded) research project, whose main goals are the conservation, spreading and protection of silk heritage.

Call for papers
All participants are invited to submit their proposals before 5th November. They must include the following information:
- Abstract (maximum 10 lines)
- Keywords (between 5 and 7)
- Name, surname and e-mail of the authors
- Institutional affiliation of the authors (name, postal address and telephone)

The contribution must be original and have not been previously presented to any other meeting or submitted for publication. The paper must be submitted by e-mail attachment to the conference secretariat: infosilknow.eu

The Scientific Committee will review all proposals and will send the acceptance as oral presentation or poster. A proceedings book will be published by Universitat de València.
