Material and Visual Culture of the Seventeenth and Eighteenth Centuries hosts:
Material and Visual Culture Seminar Series
We are pleased to announce that the Material and Visual Culture Seminar series (MVCS) will be continuing for a second year. We therefore invite proposals for twenty-minute papers from postgraduate and early-career researchers addressing any aspect of material and visual culture studies.
The seminars aim to explore a wide variety of themes, eras, and localities to foster methodological and interdisciplinary dialogue. Topics might include but are not limited to: object/subject/theme case studies, material/visual culture and identity, consumerism, visual art, material/visual culture in literature, craft, ‘things’ as primary sources, etc.
Please submit a title and abstract of no more than 250 words, with a short biography (about 100 words) to materialcultureresearchecaed.ac.uk by 31 July.
The seminars are scheduled for Wednesday evenings, fortnightly throughout semester one 20/21. While in the past, these sessions have been held at the Edinburgh College of Art, due to the uncertainty surrounding the easing of current social, educational, and work restrictions taking place in the UK we will be exploring online platforms as an alternative. We welcome proposals from researchers outside of the University of Edinburgh however, we are currently unable to cover expenses (should we host meetings in person).
