Call for peer reviewers: Museological Review, Issue 24, "What is a museum now?"

Museological Review (MR) is an online peer-reviewed journal, published annually by the community of PhD students of the School of Museum Studies, University of Leicester.

Museological Review’s issue 24 will consider what a museum is now, particularly how museums play a role in society through exhibitions, programming and projects which respond to current affairs.

The theme for this issue was sparked by the newly proposed ICOM definition for museums which was discussed during their annual conference in Kyoto, Japan, this September. Within this in mind we have received submissions which question and challenge this definition, and ask questions like should museums participate and be involved in the debate around social justice, global equality and wellbeing, as the new definition proposes?

We are now inviting Museum Studies scholars to engage with us as peer reviewers for issue 24.

We are seeking scholars who received their PhD in Museum Studies or Cultural Heritage related topics, ideally within the last two years, or who have already submitted their thesis to serve as peer reviewers. Peer reviewers contribute to the development of an article by using their expert knowledge of the specified research topic to give a constructive evaluation of the article. Both the author and the peer reviewer remain anonymous throughout the process, with contact mediated through one of MR editors.

Researchers from anywhere in the world with an interest in any of the following areas are strongly encouraged to apply:

- Community-based programmes and projects.
- Critical museum practice
- Participation
- Democratisation
- Health and well-being in museums and art galleries
- Migration
- Visitor engagement
- Inclusivity
- Story-telling in museums and art galleries
- Social roles and responsibilities of museums
- Conflicts and difficult histories
- Digital approaches
- Climate change
- Social justice

Articles are submitted in English, so excellent proficiency in this language is a mandatory requirement. We consider this as an excellent opportunity for researchers wishing to develop their editing skills and to establish a collaboration with PhD students across universities. Being a peer reviewer is an exciting opportunity, but it requires commitment with the team for the successful publishing of the next issue of Museological Review.
